| Abstract/Contents: | "Imazaquin which is commonly used for control of purple nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus L.) and wild garlic (Allium vineale L.) in warm-season turf was evaluated as a chemical mowing agent on bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.) and St. Augustinegrass (Stenotaphrum secundatum (Walt.) Kuntze). Applications were made to the turf at the rate of 1628 L/ha following routine mowing. Imazaquin was effective in suppressing the growth of the turfgrass for approximately 18 to 21 days. On bermudagrass treated turf, 'Common' displayed more obvious suppression than 'Tifway 419' due to its more vertical growth habit. Turf color was slightly reduced by imazaquin application, however, turf quality remained acceptable at all times. On turfgrasses which were not growing actively, a reduced treatment affect was observed. On actively growing common bermudagrass and St. Augustinegrass, imazaquin can be used to eliminate mowing for approxiately three weeks with no adverse affects to the turfgrass." |
