| Abstract/Contents: | "For the purpose of estimating the appropriateness to have school turf, we performed cost-benefit analysis using CVM (Contingent Valuation Method) for the turfs of two public elementary schools in Chiba prefecture. The WTP (Willingness to Pay) of the parents of the schoolchildren for managing the school turfs were 1, 845, 2, 380 yen (median) or 2, 487, 2, 751 yen (mean) per year. These were higher per area compared to those of neighborhood parks. The parents, who have an intention to participate in turf management, showed higher WTP. The benefit of the school turfs was higher than the cost. Warm-season turfgrass was more cost effective than cool-season turfgrass. As the result, we conclude that school turf is beneficial for the society and it is well worth to have." |
