| Abstract/Contents: | "The objective of this study is investigate the effects of the mixture of cool-season and warm-season turfgrasses on weed control and wear tolerance in turf. While less weeds occurred in centipedegrass (Eremochloa ophiruroides (Munro.) Hack.) and St. Augustinegrass (Stenotaphrum secundatum (Walt.) Kuntze) monostands, weeds were generally much less in warm-season and coolseason turfgrass mixtures compared to in warm-season turfgrass monostands. During summer period, mixture plots with coolseason turfgrasses, kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) or tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb. ), showed better tolerance to manually simulated traffic than control plot with only bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.) . In winter treatment, the mixed-stands similary showed better wear tolerance. Soil bulk density increased in bermudagrass monostand but not in mixedstands with cool-season turfgrasses." |
