| Abstract/Contents: | "Enhancing effect of prohexadione calcium on the drought resistance of creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris Huds.) and Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) was examined by the pot test in the greenhouse. The results were summarized as follows. Plant height of the both turf grasses was suppressed by prohexadione-calcium, and its effect increased with increasing the application rate. When creeping bentgrass and Kentucky bluegrass were grown under dry conditions after the chemical treatments, the dry treatment did not damage the both turfgrasses, whereas their leaf blade in none-treated turfgrasses was wilted and then the plants died. During the dry treatment, reduction in the water potential of leaf blade was diminished by prohexadione-calcium treatments in both turfgrasses. These results suggest that prohexadione-calcium enhances the drought resistance of creeping bentgrass and Kentucky bluegrass in warm-season." |
