Abstract/Contents: | "Plots to evaluate various rates of sulfometuron and dates of application were established on roadsides near Ft. Valley and Unadilla in 1982-83. Rates were 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0 ounces ai/A at Ft. Valley and 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 ounces ai/A at Unadilla. Dates of application were 2 December 82, 25 January 83, 15 April 83, 13 June 83. Plots were visually rated on 7 April 83, 13 June 83, 15 July 83 and 1 September 83. Plot treatment schedules were conducted in pairs, so that on the first date of treatment two plots received the same treatment. At the next treatment date one plot received the same rate of the original treatment while the second plot was not treated. Another plot area was established near Braselton to determine performance of R-404244 (Stauffer) and AC-252925 (American Cyanamid). R-40244 was applied at five rates (0.0, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0 and 8.0 ai/A) and four spray volumes (5, 10, 20 and 40 gals./A) on 10 May 83. AC-252925 was applied at 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 pounds ai/A in 40 gals. water per acre. Plots were observed on 17 May and visually rated 1 July 83 and 9 August 83. Fall (2 December) and Fall-Spring (2 December-7 April) treatments were the least effective for control of winter annual weeds or bahiagrass suppression. The Winter (25 January) treatment gave excellent control of winter annual weeds, while the summer treatment gave fair to good suppression of bahiagrass, at both locations. Johnsongrass control was excellent with the 13 June treatment. Centipedegrass was tolerant to all rates of sulfometuron. Fescue exhibited injury symptoms but had completely recovered by 1 September 83. R-40244 did not control any species present in plots at any rate or volume of application. Hexazinone included as a chemical control gave excellent control. AC-252925 also gave excellent control of all species until August 83." |
