Abstract/Contents:"Studies were conducted at six locations along the roadsides of Texas. Locations selected were near Schulenberg, Bryan, Henderson, Waco, Austin and San Antonio, Texas. All treatments were applied to replicated (3) plots at each location. Treatments and rates were glyphosate (N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine) (1.1 and 0.56 kg/ha) and DPX-5648 (methyl-2(((((4,6-dimethyl-2-pyrimidinyl)amino)-carbonyl) amino)sulfonyl)benzoate (0.28 and 0.14 kg/ha) alone and in all combinations. A drift control agent (1.0 ml/800 ml) was added to all solutions. Applications were applied utilizing the broadcast spraying system of Cibolo Spraying System Co. at locations (Waco, Bryan and Henderson) which received ten (10) or more inches of rainfall during May, June, and July, johnsongrass control was significantly superior in plots treated with the combinations of glyphosate and DPX-5648. At locations (Schulenberg, Austin, and San Antonio) which received less rainfall during this period the higher rate of glyphosate plus DPX-5648 was significantly superior at Schulenberg and Austin. The trend was also present in San Antonio. Lower treatment rates (1.1 kg glyphosate plus 0.14 kg DPX-5648 or 0.56 kg glyphosate plus 0.28 kg DPX-5648) provides satisfactory control of johnsongrass and less damage to bermudagrass in areas of higher rainfall (10 or more inches spread over the evaluation time). Areas of erratic-low rainfall during the evaluation period should be treated with the higher rate (1.0 kg plus 0.28 kg/ha of glyphosate and DPX-5648)."
