Abstract/Contents:"More than thirty tests established from May 5, 1980 to August 6, 1982 in the Southeastern United States describe the utility of OustĀ® weed killer (formerly DPX-5648) for johnsongrass (Sorghum halepense) control on highway rights-of-way. Dosage rates of the 75% dispersible granule formulate varied from 4 ounces to 32 ounces in 1980, 2 ounces to 24 ounces in 1981, and 1/8 ounce to 22 ounces in 1982. The principal utility of OustĀ® to date appears to be highway R.O.W. management, especially selective weeding in bermuda (Cynodon dactylon) and bahiagrass (Paspalum notatum) turf. Effective rates range from 1/2 ounce to 8 ounces product per acre depending on vegetation management objective and local environmental conditions. OustĀ® multiple treatments of 2 to 4 ounces product per acre successfully controlled johnsongrass (90%+) and other noxious weeds in bermuda release programs. Season-long control of johnsongrass, based on current data, can be accomplished with a single fall application of 8 ounces product per acre where turf species are not well established. Seedhead mowing frequency and johnsongrass encroachment can be reduced with OustĀ® applications of 1/2 to 1 ounce product per acre in Pensacola Bahia."
