Abstract/Contents: | "The performance of herbicides on turfgrass root growth is not as well documented as on top growth. However, from limited data available, sod strength of bermudagrass, Kentucky bluegrass, and tall fescue was reduced at 4 to 6 weeks after treatment with bensulide, bensulide + oxadiazon, metribuzin, and metribuzin + MSMA. Siduron, DCPA, and dicamba did not reduce sod strength while oxadiazon was variable in response. On established bermudagrass and zoysia, napropamide reduced root growth more than did other herbicides. Pronamide, atrazine, and simazine did not reduce root growth of newly sprigged centipedegrass provided reduced rates were used and applied no more than twice during the first 6 weeks after planting." |
