Abstract/Contents: | "Wear and soil compaction are the two major traffic stresses on turfgrasses. While both can occur at the same time, one usually is the dominant stress in a specific situation. Major areas of research interest for both stresses should include (a) tolerance of existing species/cultivars, (b) identification of morphological/anatomical/physiological responses to wear/compaction and their relative importance as injury mechanisms or tolerance mechanisms, (c) development of more tolerant grasses to each stress, (d) development of more effective cultural programs to prevent/minimize/alleviate the stress. Researchers should carefully quantify wear/compaction stress when reporting results." |
