Abstract/Contents:"BAS 541 00 H is a selective postmergence herbicide being developed for the control of weedy grasses and broadleaf weeds in turf grass. The objective of this Experimental Use Permit (EUP) was to demonstrate and obtain weed control and turf grass response from postmergence application of BAS 541 00 H using a wide range of commercial application equipment. 32 EUP trials were conducted in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, and Missouri. BAS 514 00 H was applied at .5 to 2.5 lbs product in single and split applications. BAS 090 02 S surfactant was used at 1 quart per acre with all applications. BAS 514 00 H was applied with a wide range of spray equipment using spray volume of 15 to 195 gpa at 10 to 180 psi. Applications were made on bluegrass, tall fescue, ryegrass, red fescue, bermuda, and bentgrass. No injury to any turf grass was reported. Smooth crabgrass (Digitaria ischaemun Schreb) was the most prevalent weed in the tests. Control was excellent averaging 91% for .5 to 2 inch tall and 97% for 2 to 4 inch tall smooth crabgrass. Control of large crabgrass (Digitaria sanguinalis L. Scop) was 71% from 9 sites. Control of susceptible broadleaf weeds ranged 81% for white clover (Trifolium repens L.), 70% for dandelion (Taraxacrum officinal Weber), 76% for buckhorn plaintain (Plantago lanceolata L.) and 72% for black medic (Medicago lupulina L.)."
