| Abstract/Contents: | "The influence of nitrogen form and the rate of nitrogen and chloride application was assessed on turf quality and severity of summer patch in 'Flylking' Kentucky bluegrass. Plots were inoculated with Magnaporthe poae in 1990. Varying rates of ammonium sulfate and calcium nitrate and combinations of potassium sulfate and potassium chloride were applied every three weeks from May to October in 1990 and 1991. In 1990, patch diameter and rhizosphere pH were slightly reduced by the application of ammonium sulfate. In 1991, the onset of summer patch, patch development, bulk soil and rhizosphere pH were greatly reduced by ammonium, with the greatest reduction at the highest rates of ammonium application. Chloride did not influence the severity of summer patch, turf quality, or soil pH. Turf quality was not significantly influenced by nitrogen form or rate." |
