Abstract/Contents:"Imazosulfuron (Fig. 1) is one of the sulfonylurea herbicides developed for paddy rice and turf. Characteristics of imazosulfuron as a turf herbicide for the activity against weeds in turf and the effect on turfgrasses were investigated. Imazosulfuron was prepared as 10% flowable and applied at a spray volume of 250 m l/m2 in all the experiments. The results were as follows: 1) Imazosulfuron controlled many broadleaf weeds and sedges effectively at the doses of 0.05 and 0.08g a.i./m2 both by preemergence and postemergence application (Fig. 2). 2) Imazosulfuron, especially, afforded an excellent control against perennial sedges such as Cyperus brevifolius var. leiolepis and Cyperus rotundus, even by late postemergence application (Fig 3, 4). 3) Postemergence application of imazosulfuron and subsequent removal of shoots of Cyperus rotundas at 8 and 15 days after treatment suppressed the shoot regrowth (Fig. 5). 4) Imazosulfuron showed a high safety level for zoysiagrass (Zoysia matrella and Zoysia japonica) turf (Tables 1, 2), and did not affect appreciably bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon), creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera) and Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis) turf (Table 3) even at the dose of 0.2g a.i./m2."
