Abstract/Contents: | "Weeds affect turf quality. Generally, weeds control is carried out two or three months after seedling; this practice may result ineffective if weeds are too big and consequently more resistant to treatments. The goals of present research are the evaluation of weed control and toxicity of several herbicides applied one month after the turfgrass seeding. The trial was carried out in Southern Italy during October-November 2010. The experimental site at a sod farm is located near the Ionian sea in the Apulia region. A randomized complete block design was utilized to compare six treatments: Evade (Fluroxipyr+triclopyr), Arianne II (Fluroxipir + Clopiralid +MCPA), Ronstar FL (Oxadiazon), Mondak (Dicamba), Granstar SX+Proper (Tribenuron-methlyl +fenoxaprop p-ethyl), Evade+ Proper (Fluroxipyr+triclopyr+ fenoxaprop p-ethyl) with control test. During trial time, every fifteen days, herbicide efficacy and phitotoxicity on turf mixture (Tall fescue and Kentucky bluegrass) were observed. Among treatments compared, good results were provided by Evade+Proper and Ronstar FL in terms of weed control (weed cover between 6 and 34%) and persistence for the whole period. The worst performance was shown by Mondak with values of weed cover near 50% for whole period. All treatments compared shown high selectivity with no phytotoxicity effects on turf plots." |
