Abstract/Contents:"Two liquid fertilizer programs were compared to two IFAS fertilizer programs for maintenance of St. Augustinegrass lawns in North Florida during the 1986 growing season at Gainesville, FL. A urea fertilizer was included as a check treatment. Response of 'Floralawn' St. Augustinegrass, Stenotaphrum secundatum (Waltz.) Kuntze., growing on a fine sand soil was measured in terms of fertilizer effects on turf quality, turf density, verdure, rate of top growth, and root production and distribution. The urea fertilizer treatment consistently had the best scores for turf quality, turf density, and rate of top growth. Liquid fertilizer treatments had better turf quality scores than IFAS granular treatments, but they did not differ in turf density. All fertilizer treatments produced acceptable turf density and turf quality. However, none affected verdure, root production and distribution, or soil reaction and soil nutrient status when evaluated at the close of the growing season."
