Abstract/Contents:"It was the purpose of this investigation to obtain results on the NO3-N and the NH4+-N contents in the soil under different types of turf by using the N-min method. In July 1986 and in Juli [July] 1987 (four times) soil samples were therefore taken on two golf links"(Golfplätze Bodenproben-Golf course surface tests)"from three different levels, viz. from a depth of 0-30 cm, 30-60 cm and 60-90 cm. In addition, water samples were taken on one golf course from different places, which were examined as to their concentration of NO3, SO2/4, Cl-, H2PO4- and NH4+. The results can be summarized as follows: 1) Depending on the type of turf, the N-min contents differ in the various depths. They were lowest under the greens and highest under the roughs. 2) With increasing depth, the N-min contents, as a consequence of the high medium NH4+-N values in a depth of 60-90 cm, increases under the greens on both golf courses, but is reduced under the fairway and rough areas. 3) The seasonal changes of the N-min contents do not show a clear development as far as the NO3-N and the NH4+-N levels are concerned. 4) Newly established greens with a high proportion of sand in the vegetation layer show definitely lower NO3-N values in the entire soil profile than older ones with a lower proportion of sand. 5) Water samples, which were taken in the area still within the influence of the agriculturally used area always contain the comparatively highest concentration of NO3 (up to 86mg NO3/l in July 1987), whereas those from the drainage of the golf course show the lowest NO3, however the highest concentrations of SO2/4 (up to 392 mg SO2 4/1 in November 1986)."
