Abstract/Contents:"A 'Merion' Kentucky bluegrass lawn was systematically sampled on four dates in 1967 for incidence of stripe smut (Ustilago striiformis (West.) Niessl) and flag msut (Urocystis agropyri (Pruss) Schroet.). Over the four dates stripe smut was found on 54.8% and flag smut on 45.2% of the infected leaves. Because both diseases produce the same symptoms, the sori were examined microscopically for identification. The fact that two disease organisms are causing what appears to be one disease may cause problems for plant breeders and those developing chemical controls."
