| Abstract/Contents: | The various test sites were evaluated for the relationship between intensity of use and the influence that use had on the overall diversity of plant species, in particular, the effects wear has on the roots. Each site, having its own soil construction and intensity of wear, demonstrates specific characteristics which are compared to the other sites. Test samples taken to discover the numbers of grass species present from 1x1 m sections, or 1% of the total surface area of the site. The samples used to examine root density were taken from a 5 cm depth. Due to diverse factors that contribute to root development (porosity of soil, kinds of grasses planted, weather and maintenance, intensity of use), it is difficult to draw any specific conclusions as to the influence of the surface construction on root growth. |
