Abstract/Contents:"To solve the problem about the absence of anti-pollution grass species at the seriously-polluted area of the industry of metallurgy and minerals in south of China. Ten perennial grass species suitable for subtropics natural conditions were selected to conduct a control experiment of anti-pollution collectively at the seriously polluted areas in Zhuzhou smeltery. Eight main poisonous ingredients in those ten varieties were analyzed as well. The results showed that 4 grass species which had more anti-pollution ability and grew better at the seriously polluted areas were Tifway 419, Coastcross I, Bermulda [Bermuda] grass, Zoysia japonica. Among the 8 poisonous ingredients compared with the control area, the contents of As, Pb, Cd, Cu in Tifway 419 were 126, 53, 55, 21.75 folds of those control areas respectively, the contents of As, Zn, Pb, Cd in Coastcross I, Bermuda grass were 35.71, 34.07, 19.09, 14.17 folds of those control areas respectively, the contents of Zn, As, Pb in Zoysia japonica were 128, 1066, 60 folds of those control areas respectively, the contents of Cd, Pb, As in Zoysia japonica were 570, 83.3, 80 folds of those of control areas. The other six grass species could survive after transplanted in the seriously polluted area but they died later after growing for some time. The contents of the 8 poisonous ingredients within the six species were all higher than those of control areas."
