Abstract/Contents:"The electrolyte leakage of Zoysia metrella and poa pratensis were exposed to temperatures between 0°C and -19 °C during cold acclimation in this study and mecian [median] lethal temperatures (LT50) were determined using electrolyte leakage combined with logistic function. During cold acclimation, the electrolyte leakage curves fitted with logistic function have become slower in bluegrass than in zoysiagrass, indicated that bluegrass Poa pratensis were more suited to low-temperature. Bluegrass LT50 declined from -6.5 °C to -15.3 °C and zoysia grass, from -7.3 °C to -1.0 °C. Low-temperature was important for cold acclimation of cold-season turfgrass. Warmer weather easely [easily] caused dehardening of previously hardened turfgrass. Zoysia grass adapt to dehardening, TNC contents of leaf and rhizome increased during cold acclimation. During cold acclimation, SOD activity of turfgrass were dramatically increased by 133.2%~155.0%. This result indicated that SOD played an [a] role of defense in cold acclimation."
