Abstract/Contents:"In order to appraise the adaptability to the Karst ecosystem of new tall fescue including '981-1', '92-2' and '98-5' that the Guizhou Pratacultural Institute had bred, from 1999 to 2001, comparative experiments were carried out in an area of quite serious desertification and soil erosion on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River at Bijie. The results showed the resistance to adversity of the tall fescue varieties '98-1', '98-2', '98-5' and CK1 evidently excelled over that of the CK variety. However, looking at lawn use characteristics, only the tall fescue variety '98-1' was better than the CK variety. Therefore, all the tall fescue varieties tested are suitable for the Karst ecosystem, and of these the '98-1' variety can be widely used as a turf grass."
