| Abstract/Contents: | "X-ray spectroscopy showed that the glume of Zoysia japonica seeds was covered by silicon and wax, which resulted in poor glume penetration, restricting germination rate (GR). It was found that seed germination could be promoted by immersion in HF, acetone, H2SO4 or NaOH. Specifically, putting seeds in 0.6% HF acid solution for 10 min, 30% acetone solution for 20 min, 60% H2SO4 solution for 5 min, or 20% NaOH solution for 20 min, broke seed dormancy, with GR of 88%, 90%, 92% and 90.6%, respectively." |
