Abstract/Contents:"Viability of endophytic fungi in the seeds of grass species either native in China or introduced from USA was tested by examining the seedlings developed from seeds contained endophyte. Endophyte in some green turf at Lanzhou city, China, was also surveyed by taking turf samples and examining all tillers in the samples. The results showed that endophyte in the seeds of Hordeum bodganii, a native wild species grown at Altai, Xingjiang, China, had a high viability, the percent of seedling infection was 81.5%. Whereas all of other seed samples containing endophyte of the native species tested had lost their germinability. All seed samples of introduced species had a high percentage of germination and the endophyte detected in the seeds of Lolium perenne had a good viability, the incidence of seedling infection varied from 5.6 to 50.0%. Five of 10 green turf sampled for endophyte have infected by the fungus, the percent of tiller infection was 9.9 to 49.5%."
