| Abstract/Contents: | "It used to be very difficult to establish turf by Zoysiagrass seed because of its strong dormancy. In this study, the metablic [metabolic] control in Zoysiagrass seed during germination was discussed. We analysised [analyzed] the respiratory activities in both dormant and non-dormant Zoysiagrass seed during germination using respiration inhibitor method. It showed that, the respiratory rate of dormant seed was significantly lower than the non-dormant seed. We also noticed that, the difference of respiratory rate between dormant and non-dormant seed was caused by the low rate of pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) and Krebs cycle (TCA) in dormant seed. This was one reason for dormant seed that did not germinate when given suitable conditions." |
