Abstract/Contents:"Tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb) has a wide range of adaptation to climate and soil conditions. It is not only a valuable forage grass, but also an ideal erosion control grass. In the past five years, it has been more and more widely used as amenity turf in China. In the present study, we analyzed the seed protein of 23 cultivars of tall fescue using SDS-PAGE. The result of cluster analysis based on the band patterns, i.e., 'present' or 'absent' of particular bands was compared with the known pedigree of the cultivars. It is shown that the closely related cultivars have similar diagrams and therefore have been grouped together in the cluster analysis. The usefulness of the method in seed analysis and plant breeding of tall fescue was discussed."
