Abstract/Contents:"An autumn overseeding trial with tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) over established zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica) turf was conducted in September through 1994-97 at seeding rates of 10, 20, 30 and 40 grams per square meter in Chengdu which is located in a typical climatic transition zone in China. The density, coverage and frequency of the two species were measured monthly during the trial and it was shown that the seeding rate of 10 grams of fescue per square meter was optimal. Increasing seed amount used would significantly increase the density of fesuce [fescue] (P<0.05) and, to a varying extent, its coverage and frequency (P>0.05) in the mixture, leading to a dramatic decline (P<0.05) in all these indices for zoysiagrass and an unwanted succession of the plant community toward a monostand one of tall fescue."
