Abstract/Contents:"In order to understand the different morphological and physiological reactions of turfgrass to drought stress, the effect of artificial watering and natural field conditions were studied at Xinjiang Agricultural University. Under a long period (0-60 d), of drought stress, turf-quality of Cynodon dactylon cv. Xinong No. 1 and Cynodon dactylon cv. Kashi were observed and evaluated. Physiological and biochemical indices such as contents of soluble sugar, starch, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, free proline (Pro), relative electrical conduction (RPP), malondiadehyde (MDA), and water saturation deficit (WSD) were measured. The research showed that the rate of leaf yellowing of Cynodon dactylon cv. Xinong No. 1 was faster (4.3%-75.2%), membrane systems were more seriously damaged (>30%), and the ability to maintain MDA/SOD and morphological adaptations were weaker (0.61-3.38) than in the other variety, but the ability to osmotically adjust to drought was better. Relative membrane conductivity in different parts of the Cynodon dactylon was: leaf < stem < rhizome < fibrous root."
