Abstract/Contents:"The vegetative character and physiological index of three cool-season turfgrasses (Festuca arundinacea, Poa pratensis and Agrostis stolonifera) were researched under natural lighting, slight shading, medium shading and heavy shading (90 μmol/m2 · s2) in the hot and humid Nanjing area. The three turfgrasses withered under heavy lighting with the leaves of F. arundinacea and P. pratensis becoming narrow while those of A. stolonifera became broad in July and August. The rates of growth of the three turfgrasses were different under the natural lighting, slight shading and medium shading treatments. The growth rates of the three turfgrasses increased from May to July. The chlorolphyll [chlorophyll] and protein content changed as light intensity decreased. The chlorolphyll [chlorophyll] contents of the three turfgrass species under medium shading were higher than those under natural lighting in July. The protein content of the three turfgrasses under medium shading was lower than that under natural lighting in June and September. The light intensity affected MDA content, activity of SOD and POD of all three cool-season turfgrasses."
