Abstract/Contents:"The variation in peroxidase isozymes and esterase isozymes of parents and progenies of fourteen Zoysia hybrid combinations were analyzed using polyacrylamide vertical plate gel electrophoresis (PGAE). The results showed that: 1) There are 20 peroxidase isozyme bands and 19 esterase isozymes bands in the late vegetative period; peroxidase enzyme bands could be divided into 3 zones, i.e. A, B, C and esterase enzyme bands could be divided into 4 zones i.e. A, B, C, D according to the distribution of the removal rate. 2) Most of the progenies differed not only in number of bands and in the activity of the same band from parents, but also had 'marker enzyme bands' not present in the parents. 3) It was found that, 25 progeny had the male parent's marker bands but not the female parent' [parent's] band and two progeny had marker bands that differed from all other tested samples. Thus 27 samples were true hybrids while the others could not be identified here."
