Abstract/Contents:"This research used nine turf-bed compositions to analyze the biomass and root distribution characteristics of Bermuda T-419, a commonly used sports turf in the tropics and subtropics. Above and belowground biomasses of treatments showed similar changes, middle sediment treatments III and VII were highest in above and belowground biomass. Root biomasses of the different treatments were significantly reduced with soil depth, and distribution of roots was concentrated in the 0-10 cm layer. Variance analysis indicated significant differences in the 0-10 cm belowground biomass between treatments and that treatments III, VI and VII were significantly higher than I and the CK. There were no significant differences in biomass in the 10-20 cm and below 20 cm soil layers. The correlation coefficient between belowground biomass and total root length was 0.541 (P<0.05), between belowground biomass and root surface-area with root volume it was 0.651 and 0.615 respectively (P<0.01), and between root number and total root length, with average diameters it was 0.500 and 0.695 respectively (P<0.01)."
