| Abstract/Contents: | "The effects of different concentrations of NaCl (0, 50, 100, 200, 300 mmol/L) on growth and on the antioxidant enzyme system of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) were studied. The biomass and MDA content were not significantly affected when tall fescue were stressed by 50, 100 mmol/L of NaCl as compared with the control, but the biomass of tall fescue was significantly reduced and MDA content increased significantly when stressed by 200 and 300 mmol/L of NaCl. The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT) initially increased but then decreased with duration of NaCl treatment. The higher the concentrations of NaCl, the more the enzyme activities were reduced. Contents of AsA and GSH gradually decreased while carotenoid content increased initially but with prolonged duration of NaCl treatment, concentration of the three antioxidants decreased, especially at the 200 and 300 mmol/L concentrations." |
