Abstract/Contents:At the end of July 1975 Rhizoctonia solani cuased [caused] considerable damage on putting greens sown with Agrostis stolonifera. This is the first report in Scandinavia from Rhizoctonia damage on turf, although the fungus is very wide-spread. Most conditions were favourable for the development of the fungus. The nitrogen fertilization was very intense. High humidity and frequent irrigation gave a wet surface. The creeping bentgrass was moved at 6 mm every day. According to American turfgrass literature the temperature was too low for Rhizoctonia attacks. The fungus is said to be inactivated at temperatures below 20° C. The weekly average temperature was well above that, but not the weekly average minimum temperature. On the other hand the minimum temperature was much higher than normal during the time of infection. Therefore it is supposed that also the temperature was suitable for development of Rhizoctonia solani."
