Abstract/Contents:In comparative trials with annual and perennial ryegrasses, and grain crops as temporary winter cover prior to planting a bermudagrass lawn, the best results were obtained with annual ryegrass. In the following spring Paraquat was applied at 1 lb/acre plus control and bermudagrass was established either by sowing or sprigging. Ground cover development was much more rapid where Paraquat was applied, and with sowing rather than with sprigging; however, where ryegrasses had been used as temporary cover, there was little difference in establishment a year later.
