"Veel van de top Schotse golfbanen zijn niet in Schotse handen. Amerikaanse ondernemers met veel geld hebben al een aantal van de topbanen in bezit. Soms uit prestige, omdat het stoer is een golfbaan te hebben in Schotland. Soms ook wel om geld te verdienen. Met bedragen tussen de 100 en 200 euro per rondje is er stevig geld te verdienen aan golf. Zeker als je het combineert met een vijfsterren hotel. Dat de Amerikaanse traditie dan wel eens in conflict komt met de Schotse greenkeeping tradities is goed te zien op Fairmont St Andrews ofwel het voormalige St. Andrews Bay."
