"De opbouw van greens en tees bestaat veelal uit gemiddeld tot grofkorrelig zand met een laag organische stofgehalte. Dit relatieve grove materiaal zorgt voor voldoende drainagecapaciteit in natte periodes, maar heeft als groot nadeel een gering vochtvasthoudend vermogen. Vooral in Zuid-Europese landen waar water schaars is, kan dit leiden tot een ongewenst hoog verbruik van irrigatiewater. Schuim doormengen kan het waterverbruik op golfbanen terugdringen."
