"Een gemeente wil het onderhoud van sportparken afstoten, maar de sportparken komen vrijwilligers tekort. Wat doe je dan? In de jaren negentig kwam voor de gemeente Ede de oplossing in de vorm van Melkert-banen. Onder behuizing van een stichting met gemeentelijke subsidie voor lonen, kleding en scholing gingen acht Melkert-mensen aan de slag in klein cultuurtechnisch onderhoud op de sportparken. Coördinator facilitaire dienst bij stichting Sportservice Ede Anton Pol vertelt hoe hij af en toe voor het behoud van zijn clubje heeft moeten vechten en hoe nu de kans lonkt om het vrijwilligersimago van de stichting af te schudden"
