| Abstract/Contents: | "The experiment was conducted on a plot of bentgrass at the Turf Field Center, NCSU, Raleigh, NC in an area in which dollar spot and brown patch developed in previous years. The soil was a native loam. The research area was managed as a bentgrass golf green and was irrigated and fertilized as needed. Air temperature at the time of applications averaged 71 F and soil temperature averaged 73 F. During the test period, temperatures were moderated and precipitation amounts low. Treatments were applied on 14, 21, or 28-day intervals. Each treatment was applied on 7 May and repeated at the appropriate interval. All treatments were applied using a CO2 pressurized backpack sprayer at 30 PSI in 2.5 gal water/1000 ft2. Treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replications; plots were 5 ft. wide by 5 ft long. Turf quality (TQ) of grass, % brown patch (BP), and % dollar spot (DS) were rated 28 May, 6 Jun, 19 Jun, 5 Jul, and 9 Jul. Disease pressure was lower than that of 1990 due to cooler, drier weather. All of the fungicides tested, except Fore 8FL at 6 oz, provided significant control of dollar spot. Fungicidal control of brown patch was not as effective. The most effective treatment was of combination of Prostar 70WP at 1.43 oz and SAN619 40WG at 0.168 oz; this treatment also resulted in a darker green color. No phytotoxicity was observed." |
