| Abstract/Contents: | "Wetting agent trials were conducted in a commercial Kentucky bluegrass seed production field near Post Falls, ID. Individual treatment plots were 10 x 20 feet with four replications in a randomized complete-block design. Three wetting agents were applied at two rates of active ingredient per acre on 16 June (30% anthesis). Treatments were applied with a CO2 pressurized boom sprayer at 40 psi using a 128 gal/acre carrier rate. Plots were rated for disease severity on 8 July by visually observing the amount of sclerotia and seedhead exudate (honeydew) on the panicles. On July 12, 20 panicles were harvested by hand from each plot and the mean weight of clean seed, 1000 seed weight, and sclerotia per panicle were determined. Disease was observed in all plots and was severe in untreated plots. All wetting agents reduced disease compared to untreated plots except for Penaturf at 349oz./acre for honeydew. Ergot was less severe when wetting agents were applied at 697 oz./acre and application of R-11 and Aquagro at this rate resulted in the lowest recordings of disease. Application of all wetting agent treatments resulted in reduced seed weight per panicle when compared to untreated plots, although Penaturf applied at both rates and Aquagro applied at 349 oz./acre were not significantly different than plots treated with water alone. Weight per 1,000 seed was not significantly affected by any of the wetting agent treatments." |
