Abstract/Contents:"Five fungicides were evaluated on a Merion Kentucky bluegrass turf established Sep 1985 at the University of Nebraska John Seaton Anderson turfgrass research facility, Mead, NE. The test site was irrigated daily for a total of 1.5 in. of water per wk. Mowing ht was maintained at 2.5 in. with the clippings returned. Fertilizer application consisted of 1 lb of actual N applied 22 Oct 90, 1 lb applied 9 May, and 0.5 lb applied 17 Jun and again 8 Jul. One lb of dacthal was applied 5 Apr and again 27 May as a preemergent. Postemergent weed control was 2,4-D, MCPP and dicamba applied 22 Oct 90. Plot size was 25 sq ft. Fungicide treatments were replicated four times in a randomized complete block design. Application dates for all fungicides were 17 Jul, 31 Jul, and 14 Aug. A CO2-pressurized (25 psi) backpack sprayer, calibrated to deliver 5 gal solution per 1000 sq ft with a flat fan nozzle, was used for application. Precipitation was above normal during May and below normal from Jun through Sep. Temperatures were near normal for May through Sep with intermittent periods of hot weather. Stem rust developed slowly during the summer and reached a moderate level by mid-Aug. Because of the light stem rust severity, the 17 Jul and 31 Jul evaluations give a poor indication of fungicide efficacy. The 14 Aug ratings show that all fungicide treatments effectively reduced rust development. The most effective control was accomplished with Daconil 2787, Bayleton, RH 3866, and Broadway. No phytotoxicity was noted for any of the treatments."
