Abstract/Contents:"Preference by the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (Smith), for oviposition on four varieties of bermudagrass, Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers., Alicia, Callie, Coastal, and Common, was studied in the greenhouse. To determine preference a comparison was made of the total number of egg clusters, eggs per cluster and size (area) of cluster. There were ca. three times more clusters and eggs laid on Callie than on other varieties. No significant differences were observed between varieties for area of clusters and eggs per cluster. Since Callie bermudagrass leaves are larger, the greater number of clusters and eggs laid on Callie suggests a possible direct relationship between oviposition and leaf size."
