Abstract/Contents:Precipitation along the Swedish Baltic coast is normally insufficient for good turf growth and trials have been conducted with saline irrigation water from the sea. Some data from various sources are presented on the ionic content of the salt, the changes in the soil percentage of exchangeable cations for Dutch and Swedish sites irrigated with saline water, and the relative salt tolerance of turfgrass species and cvs. Recommendations are given on irrigation frequency and level, fertilizers, soil amendments, mowing and the choice of turfgrasses.
