Abstract/Contents: | Trials were made on tall fescue [Festuca arundinacea], red fescue [F. rubra] and Kentucky bluegrass [Poa pratensis] turfgrasses comparing the effect of N at 0-3 lb/1000 ft2 applied in September and October, June, August and October, and April, respectively, in 3 consecutive years. Response to September and April applications of 1 lb N were marked with all grasses; at higher N application rates, however, there was little or no further response, except with P. pratensis, on which all September-applied rates were beneficial. June application was harmful and resulted in serious foliar scorch or plant death, especially at the higher rates. Data are also presented on the density of the various grasses 6 months after the final fertilizer application. |
