Abstract/Contents: | "Progress has been limited on the main project on eliminating alternative germination temperatures from the rules for Lolium spp. Comprehensive work by Johnston and Tattersfield had not been accepted as conclusive by some members of the germination committee at the last congress and further work carried out on an individual basis has not supported their proposed elimination of 20°-30°C. Because of limited resources it was considered inappropriate to repeat their large scale work without a reasonable surety that the experimental design would be sensitive enough to produce statistically significant and acceptable results. An appropriate experimental design appears to be now available from the results obtained by the Cucurbitaceae working group and should be used in the next three year period on Lolium spp. and possibly some other species. A survey of methods used by stations in ISTA will be necessary to find the most appropriate stations to take part in the investigation." |
