| Abstract/Contents: | "Plant nutrition is recognized as an important component in disease resistance for turfgrass species. Potassium is one of the most important nutrients involved in plant health, playing an essential role in both mechanical and biochemical defense mechanisms. A review of the literature indicates inconsistencies concerning the relationship between K and disease severity in turfgrass species. Some studies show a negative correlation between plant K levels and disease, while others show no correlation. Therefore, potassium's effect on disease must be considered on a species-by-species basis. A complete, balanced fertility program did consistently decreased disease severity and should be an integral part of any successful turf management program." |
