Abstract/Contents:"Until now there was in Germany no need for defining the degree of compaction of a sward before the turf was installed on the sports fields or the golf courses. However, real-life practice teaches that lawsuits followed frequently the construction of the sports fields because of the water permeability of their turf that depends on their degree of compaction. The number of the pores containing water decreases when the degree of compaction increases. That has as consequence a reduction of the water permeability. Thanks numerous tests with an adequate preparation of the samples and after regulating the water content by using the proctor compaction test, it is nowadays possible to ascertain reproducible data on the permeability of water. With the help of our comprehensive data material collected before the construction of sport field, greens and tee-boxes covered with natural turf we can now fix the profile of all the requirements needed to determine the limit values for the chosen soil parameters, such as the degree of density and the size and volume of the pores. They are compiled on table 1."
