| Abstract/Contents: | "Applications of plant growth regulators may be one of several management practices that aid in preservin the environment. One objective of this study was to begin to determine the effect of cimectacarb applications on the above- and below-ground morphological characteristics of Tifway bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon x C. transvaalensis). A second objective was to begin to determine if cimectacarb applications can decrease nitrogen (N) fertilizer requirements. Plugs of Tifway bermudagrass were grown for a total of 5.5 months under glasshouse conditions in 102-mm diam. x 915-mm deep PVC cylinders that contained a medium-textured sand. Turfs were fertilized at three different N rates, beginning 7 wk prior to cimectacarb applications. Visual turfgrass quality and clipping yields were determined weekly for 6 wk following cimectacarb applications. Stem density and shoots/stem also were measured. At harvest, crown mass was measured and the root systems were analyzed for mass, length, and branching. Cimectacarb applications resulted in a denser, darker green canopy that produced less clippings, lower N requirements, and a higher root mass." |
