Abstract/Contents:Plugs of perennial grass species were planted in an area previously treated with methyl bromide in September, 1967, and evaluated for their responses to various herbicides applied in May, 1968. Atrazine, monuron, paraquat and dalapon gave non-selective control of orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata), Kentucky fescue (Festuca elatior), quackgrass (Agropyron repens) and bluegrass (Poa pratensis). Bromacil selectively removed orchardgrass and to a lesser degree quackgrass, causing only temporary discoloration of bluegrass. Excessively high rates of picloram controlled quackgrass with less effect on the other grasses. When bromacil and terbacil were evaluated at 0.25-2 lb/acre in established stands of orchardgrass or quackgrass, rates of 1-1.5 lb/acre were required to give satisfactory control. Atrazine and dichlobenil gave good control of quackgrass, but the waiting period necessary before sowing bluegrass may be excessive.
