| Abstract/Contents: | Although the thick, prolonged snow cover protects turf from frost, it often favors the development of diseases caused by Fusarium nivale, Typhula ishikariensis, T. inoarnata and Sclerotinia borealis. Resistant varieties of Festuca pratensis, Poa pratensis, Phleum pratense and Alopecurus pratensis are being sought. Quintozene at 4-5 kg/ha a.i. in autumn has given good control of fungal diseases, but ice, frost or standing water can be hazardous during the spring thaw. |
