Abstract/Contents:"Infection by the seed-borne fungal endophyte Acremonium lolii is probably endemic in long established perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) in the UK (5), but is absent, or present at low levels, in commercial cultivars (4,5). In New Zealand, endophyte infection has been credited with various attributes, some beneficial to agriculture and some not (1), but little is known of its effects in the UK. In the present work, the yield of genetically identical perennial ryegrass plants with and without natural infection by endophyte was compared at three sites in 1989."
