| Abstract/Contents: | Current methods of establishing lawns, sports grounds and roadside verges and escarpments are outlined. The principal turf spp. are Festuca rubra and Poa pratensis, and on golf greens P. annua predominates. To withstand heavy wear, seed mixtures include 70-80% of P. pratensis. The optimum cutting height, which is essential for good overwintering, varies with the sp., but for P. pratensis the turf should not be cut shorter than 5-6 cm. in September. |
