| Abstract/Contents: | "The seasonal activity of Penthaleus major (Dugés), has been estimated by using pitfall traps in established turfgass. Activity began in October, peaked in mid-winter, and ceased in early May. Numbers collected in carbaryl treated plots were consistently higher than in other insecticide-treated and untreated areas. Observations of feeding habits and host preference studies suggest that P. major may contribute to winter injury problems in heavily infested bluegrass-fescue turf areas. This is a new record for New jersey. The mite has been collected also in home lawns, golf courses, and utility-type turf areas throughout the State." |
